On August 16, 2008 Robert Knight was tragically taken from our Scouting family in an automobile accident.  Please raise Robert’s family up in prayer as they face these most difficult of times.

Robert, 19 years of age, had a great run as a Scout with our troop attaining the rank of Eagle Scout, serving in about every leadership position, including Troop Guide to the Rattlesnake patrol, and Assistant Scoutmaster.  Robert would have been returning to the Virginia Military Institute as a third classman (sophomore), and cadet corporal.  We will sorely miss his cheerfulness, dedication to serving others, and company.

Visitation will be August 19, 2008 from 6-8 PM at Colonial Funeral home on Church Street in Smithfield followed by the funeral service on August 20, 2008 at 11am at the same location.  Graveside service will be at approximately 1pm at Chesapeake Memorial Gardens off of Cedar Road in Chesapeake.

Scouts attending the services should wear the Class A uniform (long pants), dress shoes or hiking boots, no hat, and rain gear.  Those wishing to attend the funeral should meet at the Ruritan Hall at 10 am.

We’ve had a successful week here at the Blue Ridge Mountain Scout Reservation with many merit badges earned. We’re in the running for earning the Houndstooth Award here at Camp Powhatan. We’ve been blessed with beautiful weather and have only had rain on two occasions. We’ ll be returning to Carrollton on Saturday at about 4PM. We will be calling en route to give a more refined estimate of arrival time.

The Troop will depart the Ruritan Hall at about 1700 Friday July 11, 2008.  We will be travelling about an 18 mile stretch of beach up from Corolla, so if you’re driving let us know if you do not have four wheel drive.  Return is expected to be around 1200 Sunday July 13, 2008.
